This experience has led me to believe that wifi dongles in general aren't as plug-and-play as the Ethernet to USB adapter. I take it home, try my Ethernet to USB, get internet, update, and everything works. I recently got a water damaged Thinkpad super cheap because the seller couldn't get internet to work, not with manually downloaded drivers, not with wifi dongle, nothing. I want a wifi dongle that is as magic as my Ethernet to USB. I plug that in, Windows update, apt update, whatever, and then I don't need it. My TP link Ethernet to USB adapter has been a magic solution, saving me from needing to find and download drivers on a different device. It comes up more often than I would have thought. That would work when I have access to a wire but I'm looking for a solution for when I can't wire in and the device in question doesn't have a driver for any of its networking hardware.
